Sometimes thought to be congenital, Chiari is often associated with other anomalies including Spina Bifida, Scoliosis, Basilar Invagination, Syringomyelia and increased intracranial pressure.

Many people have been diagnosed with Chiari after being in motor vehicle accidents, following a blow to the head and even roller coaster rides.

Welcome to our Website!

Arnold Chiari Malformation is a hindbrain malformation in which the Cerebellar Tonsils have herniated down out of the skull and into the spinal canal.

The overcrowding can result in the restriction of CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) from the spine into the brain.  It's thought that this restriction of CSF flow and the pressure it produces may cause a fluid filled cyst known as a "syrinx" to form inside the spinal canal.

Chiari is often misdiagnosed because the symptoms are many and vary from one person to another.  Because Chiari can only be correctly identified with an MRI, Myelogram or by a Cine MRI, so many times it's overlooked.
